Carly Foxx shares some of her favorite US house tunes

Currently based in London Carly Foxx is an Australian DJ and music producer with releases to date on Danse Club, Stealth and Natura Viva Records. Her steady stream of dynamic mixtapes incorporate US style house, acid, and disco, with a penchant for the 90’s.

Her productions consolidate deep grooves with hypnotic moody undertones; showcasing her very own signature vocals. 2016 saw her debut at The Warehouse Project as part of Joris Vroon’s ‘Ants’ party, with 2017 seeing forthcoming release on Ibiza’s Vitalik Recordings including a remix form Luca C, and a 3 track EP on Paul Loraine’s Rhythm Cult Records.

We asked Carly Foxx to share some of her favorite US house records.

1.  Mateo & Matos – New York Style (Spiritual Life Music)

“This track samples the outro of Eddie Grant’s disco/calypso song, ‘California Style’. A super groovy deep house take on the original. That tribal percussion gets those hips swinging…”

2. CZR – Chicago Southside (Dockland Records)

“This track samples Gene chandler’s uber disco track ‘When You’re Number One.’ Sped up by about 10bpm and ramped up with some proper chicago house bass. I love the proper uplifting feel good vibes this track brings to the dancefloor. Smiles all round.”

3. DJ Jes – Keep On Preachin (Immigrant Records)

“What I love about this era and style of dance music, is the beautiful simplicity of most of the musical output. Drum machine, bass, a synth and some chopped up vocal samples. Job done. No fancy plug ins, no . It’s just about the vibe. And this track got vibes.”

4. Chris Brann – Eyes (Peacefrog Records)

“This track was released on Peacefrog – my favourite label of this era by far. This track is super soulful, warm and uplifting…like you’re just coming up, Makes me smile”

5. DBX – Losing Control (Peacefrog Records)

“Another Peacefrog classic. Stripped back club classic. I love those massive creepy synths that come in at the end and the vocal is perfect hypnotic bliss”

6. Derrick May – Strings Of The Strings Of Life (Transmat)

“This beatless version of Strings Of Life is is cosmic goodness!”

7. DJ HMC – Hypnotizin’ Funk  (Undefined Recordings)

“Ok so he’s not American but I really wanted to throw him in as he was one of the early pioneers of house and techno in Australia where I am from and was clearly very inspired by Chicago and Detroit. He now makes disco edits as LateNite Tuff Guy. This samples Donna Summer’s ‘Spring Affair,’ which has been done many times, but I like this version as it’s pretty loopy and stripped back compared to other edits I’ve heard”

8. Mike Dearborn – An Acid Memory (Djax-Up-Beats)

“Mental acid. What’s not to love.”

9. Paul Johnson – Mothafucka (Chiwax Classic Edition)

“Sounds like Dance Mania but isn’t. So bouncy!”

10. Robert Hood – The Pace (M-Plant)

“Classic detroit techno at its finest. I like this track particularly because of the switch half way through. Keeping us on our toes!”
