Beatfreak Recordings ushers in the Spring club season with a much anticipated EP from label boss D-Formation. The Spanish artist has enjoyed a tremendous start to 2019 with his well received ‘Closer’ single sitting as the highlight. Also coming courtesy of Beatfreak, it achieved resounding success, earning a place in Beatport’s Exclusives Only and Best New Progressive House selections, while also reaching #9 in the genre’s highly competitive sales chart. Now returning to his comfortable home of Beatfreak, D-Formation presents his latest and highly sought after EP entitled ‘Sian’.
Beginning with the groovy, cutting edge sounds of the title cut it’s clear D-Formation has crafted some of his most heady work to date. Fresh and dramatic across the eight minute journey, it’s a sensory delight full of redolent rhythms and tranquil lines. Deep yet electric, mounds of bass undulate while spacey arps and buzzing electronics add a cosmic vibe. Building subtly, the beauty lies in the break, classy in execution and undeniably poignant, with waning tones and euphoric chord changes shifting energy into a smooth but powerful drop, no doubt set for a massive reaction on the dance floor.
The companion piece ‘Sian’ finds D-Formation flexing the more techno inspired side of his studio repertoire. Sitting as a perfect complement to the deeper ‘Dope’, it’s punchy beats, rippling grooves and crunchy rhythms create a free flowing foundation. Astral qualities come in the form of sonic artefacts and ethereal hooks, intertwining to dramatic effect as swirling atmospheres continue to build mood and tension as the main break commences. Not without emotive moments, the centrepiece furthers the grandiose appeal, as warm overlays and pensive pads unite in a one minute stretch of sonic bliss, perfectly segueing into a tasteful finale. It rounds out a superb EP for D-Formation, setting up what promises be an incredible summer season for the Beatfreak boss. Highly recommended.
