‘DUSTINTO GOLD’ is the collaboration of the electro-acoustic producer/trumpet player saQi and the Montreal-born multi-instrumentalist/vocalist Suraj. With the record the duo explores a deep fusion of progressive electronic down tempo and dance music with a variety of Middle-Eastern inspired realms of sound. Having performed for many years all over the globe with the Qawwali ensemble Fanna fi Allah, Suraj brings some very unique flavors to the table via the oud, bazouki and vocals.
saQi states, “We wanted to incorporate the sounds of the Middle East that Suraj has been working with but put them in fresh context that would represent our own unique sound.” Several guest vocalists are featured including Shazieh Shah, Sarasvati Dasi and Pepper Proud as well as the renowned Israeli oud player Atallah. The album also includes remixes by SAAND of Soul Selectas and Forever&Ever, a solo project of Treavor Moontribe of Desert Dwellers. The record is being released by Desert Dwellers on their label Desert Trax.
