Tamango Records’ fifth release delivers a pure Italian-heat collaboration between label boss Yaya and Alex Ground (Desolat / Kina Music). The fellow Turin based producers and longtime friends Yaya and Alex join forces for ‘Rough Side’, a 4 tracker EP enriched by a remix from Inkal honcho Ben Rau.
The opening track is called ‘Rough Side’ and has been a stable weapon in Yaya’s sets since its first appearance at the Desolat boat party during WMC in Miami last year. As the title suggests, it’s a peak-time roller with a shaking bassline that flows under rattling hits and toms. Some old tape vocals and drum fill find their place into the break, just before an unexpected ‘party-starting’ old school synth marks this track as one of the summer anthems to get any dance floor moving.
Remix duties are handled to Fuse London regular Ben Rau who has recently launched his own ‘Inkal’ and sister-label ‘Meta’ last year, storming the charts release after release. The B side kicks off with ‘You Know The Unknown’ where the boys go deeper and deeper, creating a majestic tech house groove with sharp and rubbery hi-hats, raw percussions and fluttering snares all rolling into one. The result is an intense and introspective trip full of light pads and dense synths, all together for another club gem.
Closing the EP is ‘Night Wings’, seven deep and warm minutes of the finest house music. Again, the title itself perfectly describes the track, where subtle and spaced synths and shuffling drums turn this one into a hypnotic warm-up mood.
