Melodically focussed, Boston based deep house label Cenote Records continue to serve up beautifully formed EPs with a new one from Smeed & Suspence. It features two top tracks from the pair as well as remixes from Parcel and V i v i d.

Bostonians Smeed & Suspence have been creating forward thinking house music for a few years, and with great results. With a wide remit that takes in everything from darkness to deepness, melodic magic to moving emotions they have found favour with the likes of Maceo Plex and Steve Lawler and it comes on labels like Motek as well as Modern Day Music.

Up first the excellent ‘Running’ sets an engaging and sensuous tone with a gentle deep house groove. Whispered vocals and emotive melodies roll out up top and really get under your skin as you lose yourself in the wide open space of the track.

First remixer Parcel is Los Angeles based Tarek Nasr who has releases on Motek amongst others and he flips the cut into something more tech inclined thanks to its driving drums and prodding bass smears. Fulsome and yet still stuffed with real feeling, it is a fine bit of work.

The sublime ‘Chasing’ is then seven minutes of soft and inviting deep house that is awash with romantic and late night atmospheres as wispy synths drift above rolling rubber drums. Gentle trumpet riffs and cymbal rolls add mood to the groove with real style. Remixer V i v i d is based in Pakistan and has put out infectious tech on Suruba, Sol Selects and more. His great vision is more direct and bumpy, with undulating drums setting a more up beat groove as wailing synth sounds bring an intoxicating feeling of Asian exotica to the table.

This is meaningful house music with real heart from start to finish.
