New York is the home of On Edge Society, a label created by the likeminded values of the Inmotion and Rawthentic Music owners Kareem Cali and Carlo Lio.
The latest release is from Avision, the techno alias of Anthony Cardinale, who under his birth name has featured on labels such as Suara.
Avision released an EP for On Edge Society in 2017 and this is his much anticipated follow up that this time also features a remix by the legendary DJ Rush.
Focused towards a harder techno sound, Avision tracks have been released on Alan Fitzpatrick’s We Are The Brave, Victor Calderone’s Matter, Mark Broom’s BeardMan, Sian’s Octopus, and Carl Cox’s Intec. Picking up support by taste making DJs like Nicole Moudaber, Pig&Dan, Kaiserdisco.
Chicago born DJ Rush now lives in Berlin, and has over the years made DJ appearances all over the world whilst securing countless tracks on many highly respected labels ranging from Green Velvet’s Relief to Monika Kruse’s Terminal M. A true techno veteran, his remix on this release is testament to his genius in the studio.
Dark and driving with a sound that sets the tone for the rest of the release, ‘What You Wanted’ opens proceedings with its jungle influenced snare combined with ravey vocal textures give it a distinctive personality. The commanding vocal sample that gives the track its title adds to its intensity, and overall this is one hard hitting slice of peak time techno.
DJ Rush’s remix of ‘What You Wanted’ is all about the galloping mechanics of the shuffling percussion which give a high octane tempo augmented by relentless claps. Obscure and alternative, the remix is definitely going to be something of a floor filler for many people looking to shake things up in the middle of a DJ set and really lift the energy of the room to the next level.
Second of the original works is ‘Complicated’ which in terms of its ferocity, is like the first track on steroids. A distorted tom drum fires on all cylinders to ensure high octane energy full of twisted modulation and crunching percussion. The fast flowing groove is a real workout for those on the dance floor who can keep up with its energy.
Finishing things off is the jazzy chord ripples of ‘Foolers’ that has raw percussion providing a foundation to the funky vibe its built around. Jackin’ and quirky, this very individual sounding track has classic elements blended with modern production ideas. Eccentric and well-crafted, this trail blazing cut will be the perfect selection to the discerning DJ.
