Rome’s Sonora Records returns with a stellar new single from producer Hugo Barritt backed with remixes from Whitesquare and label boss Lorenzo Dada.
Sonora Records has been releasing quality house music and more from the likes of Jay Haze, Wareika, Jus-Ed etc since 2007. For the imprint’s latest signing they turn to Berlin based New Zealander Hugo Barritt for two standout tracks of deepness backed with some impressive remixes.
Barritt has been on the scene for the last seven years releasing music on labels such as Vitalik, Murmur and No Fit State and building a solid fanbase for his own take on house music. Support from the likes of Leon Vynehall, Midland, Dusky and Ame plus compilation inclusion from Matt Tolfrey and Ryan Crosson has ensured that he has become a producer who cannot be ignored.
This latest release opens with the wonderfully understated ‘Neu Zeta’, featuring organic sounding percussion, deep bass tones and some classic stabs that add instant depth. The remix of this see Lorenzo Dada step up and deliver a respectful and original reworking that gets a little more ‘heads down’ as it digs deep into the groove.
The second original, ‘Hullabalo’, sees Barritt continue his journey into deep and dubby territory with a cut that builds around tightly chopped vocal samples and rollin’ drums. To complete the package we have the excellent Whitesquare of 20:20, Culprit and Toy Tonics fame who delves even deeper still with an emotive and hypnotic remix that closes things out in real style.
Hugo Barritt and Sonora have here an EP that is sure to bring further attention to both as these tracks take a hold in the months to come.
