RePublik Music Recordings returns with its hotly anticipated and long awaited 2nd release. Guiding the seconds outing is one of house music’s contemporary figureheads Patrick Mueller aka Patlac. The EP consists of 2 profoundly melodic cuts that highlight Patlac’s love for melancholic and deep sounds and three remixes that act as a counter balance to the deep and restrained sounds of the originals.

The title track ‘Velox’ starts off proceedings with a deep bassline akin to a church bell echoing in the distance on a dark winters night. Tension is built by a duo of pads beginning to swirl and envelope around the baseline. As the atmosphere enters a climactic tension a warm, warbly lead joins in. The restraint the track shows really gives you an an understanding of Patlac’s thoughtful and patient nature when it comes to the dance floor ‘Celar’ is slightly more upbeat, than the title track, with punchier kicks and bit crushed claps to set an altogether edgier backdrop. This track contains less dense atmospheres but has a sense of urgency that is emphasised through eerie synth layer and a tense melodic motif that carries the track to its crescendo.

On Remix duties we have a man of many names and bountiful talents. The last year has been huge for the Lossless head honcho Mathias ‘Show-B’ Schober with releases on seminal labels such as Compost, Pooled Music and Poker Flat. As far as remixes are concerned there is no-one that can hold a candle to Mr.Schober abilities in the studio. Mathias’ raw version of Velox sees him ramp up the dials to 100 as he unleashes an absolute dance floor destroyer. This version is filled tribal rhythms and dirty hi hats. Synth’s swirl and wash around the hypnotic rhythms as the track builds towards a break down that is guaranteed to send absolutely everyone into a complete frenzy.

The Polished version is exactly as described. It takes many of the elements from both the original and raw version and tidies them into a neat little package. While he’s cleaned up the drums and the rhythm, he’s also created space to add a few melodic elements which help swing this version into all more tenser affair once again ending with a massive hands-in-the-air moment.

The final remix comes courtesy of RePublik’s own Never More. Fresh from his first release under this new moniker on Dave Seaman & Steve Parry’s ever present Selador Recordings, ‘Celar’ gets a upbeat overhaul while still maintaining many of the original’s melodic. We at Republic HQ couldn’t be any prouder to present to you RMR02
