Boxer drops ‘The Rhythm Rhythm Rhythm‘ EP on FXtion Records: a six-track release that ranges from bassline-led house to rave-inflected techno.
Boxer is a fast-rising house producer and DJ, Hailing from the Midlands, Boxer has collaborated with fellow UK artist Jay Newman on both Great Stuff Recordings and Resonance Records, with releases supported by a host of AAA artists including Steve Lawler, Eats Everything, Mark Knight, Yousef, Max Chapman and Richy Ahmed alongside recent spins on Radio 1.
Subsequent releases on such labels as Armada and Kitball had marked him as one to watch for 2018, with his latest EP for FXtion Records continuing his ferociously consistent run.
‘The Rhythm Rhythm Rhythm’ EP includes two originals, with mixes from Illyus & Barrientos, Paradox City, Lee Pearce and Boxer’s own VIP Bosh Mix completing the package.
Lead track ‘The Rhythm’ is built around its dominant, chunky bass, evolving into a churning maelstrom of reverberation and looped vocals during the break before the beautifully executed drop. Glasgow’s finest Illyus & Barrientos provide a dark remix, with steel drum-like stabs and rising pads creating a tense, driving slice of tech house, while Paradox City’s neon-flecked version heads in a dreamy, almost progressive direction.
‘Funky Groove’ is another powerful original from Boxer, with classic hoover and horn samples giving it an old-school, ravey flavor. Lee Pearce draws out more from the vocal sample, with skittering hats and hard-hitting drums, while the VIP Bosh Mix-ups the tempo, stripping it down to its bare essentials for a heads-down, techno-leaning workout.
